Bolts and screws are commonly used fasteners. They are often made of metal, but sometimes this is not suitable in chemically aggressive environments. For instance, chemical influences by salts, acids, bases or gases. In those situations in particular, plastic bolts and screws can be a solution. What types of plastic bolts and screws are available?

Plastic bolts and screws come in various designs. Our range includes the following basic shapes:

  • cylinder head and pan head screws – DIN 912, DIN 84, DIN 7985
  • countersunk head screws – DIN 963, DIN 964, DIN 965
  • coach bolts – DIN 603
  • set screws – DIN 551, DIN 913
  • self-drilling screws – DIN 7504

The listed above plastic bolts and screws are fastened with tools and therefore have a hexagon head or a drive in the head such as a plain slot, Phillips or pozidriv crosshead, hexagon (Allen) or torx.

We also have a range of bolts and screws suitable for manual fastening. These are included in the standard operating components group, for example:

Plastic bolts and screws are standard available from M2 to M24, with lengths ranging from 4 to 150mm. Popular bolt sizes are M4, M6, M8, M10 and M12. Other thread sizes and lengths on request.

Plastic bolts and screws are often used in combination with plastic washers and nuts.

In which plastics are bolts and screws available?

Plastic bolts and screws are standard available in Polyamide (PA 6.6). Commonly referred to as Nylon. In addition, bolts and screws are also available in fibreglass-reinforced polyamide, hard polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polypropylene (PP), polycarbonate (PC), polyetheretherketone (PEEK), polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) also known as Teflon. The choice for a particular type of plastic often depends on chemical resistance, temperature, UV, dimensional stability, hygiene, etc.
